I work for a bank which is based in the state where I grew up. Not living there anymore makes working for this bank a little unusual but I am enjoying it. There is something irreverant about the way it goes about its business.
Anyway, because we are based back there and only have one branch here, when things are busy they fly someone over from there to support us. I always befriend these people because someone has to. I think of them a bit like one of those starving children begging for adoption on TV. They are in a big city all wide eyed and lost. Ripe for corruption.
Not long ago they sent over a young guy Adam. He truned up looking a bit metrosexual and girly but I thought I would look after him anyway. I took him out to lunch at the crumbiest place you have ever seen but they make a fantastic steak burger. I start chatting to him but all I hear about is how much he loves and misses his girlfriend.
We go out for a beer after work. More talk about how much he misses his girlfriend. All mushy stuff that men just shouldnt tell other men. To be honest I start to wonder if he isnt over-compensating for some sort of homosexual urges and had made the girl up.
I turned up to work early the next day and he was already there sending her a big long email. In the true male tradition of taking the piss I started giving him a hard time about being under the thumb and being a girly boy. I read the email and started making fun of him. My eyes jumped to her name and it was the same as my cousin.
"hey that is my cousins name, you better not be dating my cousin you dopey bastard"
"as if, how many Robinsons are there out there"
"True but if you are I will kick your arse"
We left it at that. A couple of hours later I wandered back up to him
cautiously.
"The boyfriend before you wasnt some wierd Asian guy was it?"
"Nepalese"
"Her Dads name isnt Steve"
"yeah... and Mums name is Vicki"
"oh fuck, sister Jade"
"haha.. I am shacked up with your cousin!!!"
At this stage we were both in some sort of weird shock. Not sure whether
either of us had made the stuff up and were just teasing.
A couple of weeks later Sarah joined him and I got to see my cousin who I had totally lost contact with. All very exciting and I think we were all pretty thankfuyl he had been so mushy and loving at the start rather than giving any illicit details.
Keep Smiling
Jason
