Whilst in my brief flirtation with unemployment I applied for a few jobs. I occasionally even through my hat back into the call centre ring. Not that I really wanted to go back there but you never know when you will be tempted.
One of the jobs I applied with was with ABC bank. We shall call them that because I am too chicken to use the real name. The job was in their call centre, it paid well, was casual dress and seemed ok. Only think was it didnt finish til 9pm each night and well I dont want to miss all the reality TV that is on each night.
I didnt know about the finishing time until the first minute of my interview. As soon as they mentioned it I just lost interest but I didnt want to be confrontational so I sat through the interview and wasted both of our time. I also did that thing you do when you lose interest and went the honest route. You know, the "I dont give a shit" school of thought.
Unfortunately somewhere in the ether something went wrong and I think they liked it cos they offerred me the job. I didnt know what to do so I didnt return the message they had left me. Then he kept on calling.
So I decided to suck it up and act like a real man. Thats when I sent him and email letting him know my Dad was sick and I had to fly interstate indefinately to look after him. If lying to avoid commitment isnt acting like a real man I dont know what is.
He sent me one back asking me to contact him and they may hold the job for me. I called him (after hours) and left a message saying I was gone indefinately and wouldnt be taking the job. He called me and left a message saying not to worry they could still hold it for me.
I then just stopped contact. No more emails and no more phone calls. No more contact whatsoever. It took roughly a month before his calls and emails stopped and he left me alone. I was seriously in demand.
So if anyone wants to work for a bank where they practically beg you to join and stalk you if you dont let me know. ABC could be for you.
Keep Smiling
Jason
